Tedlar is recommended in several US EPA methods for sampling VOCs and sulfur compounds. The EPA Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) was implemented in 1990 for determining the mobility of organic and inorganic contaminants present in liquids, solids and multiphasic wastes. The TCLP provides a method to determine the potential for any waste leaching in a landfill environment;, according to this procedure, a pressure driven piston system, Zero Headspace Extractor (ZHE), forces liquid waste through a glass fiber filter and into a Tedlar bag for subsequent analysis.
