For the extraction from solids with solvents. The solvent is recirculated continuously and distilled from the extracted sample before contacting the solid again. The drain allows for sampling (after temporary cooling) of the extract to monitor progress of the extraction and also for almost complete recovery of the extract and solvent at the end of the process.
