Direct Red 80 is a tetra azo dye. It is also known as sirius red F3BA, sirius red F3B etc. It can be used to detect amyloid. It can magnify the usual birefringence of collagen fibers in tissue sections. Direct Red 80 has been used as an ingredient in the preparation of saturated picric acid for immunohistochemical detection and quantitation of collagen in liver tissues. It has also been used in the staining for collagen.
