A high level of IL4 has been associated with an increased production of IgE and allergy. This cytokine suppresses IFN-? and IL-8 production. It inhibits the production of inflammatory cytokines (IL1, IL6, and TNFa). In vivo, injection of IL4 has been shown to protect against experimental arthritis and immune complex-induced lung inflammation in rats.
