It favors oxidative stress in T cells and prevents T cell differentiation. It inhibits fatty acid oxidation (+)-Etomoxir sodium salt hydrate has been used as an inhibitor of carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1 (CPT-1) in breast tumor cell lines and mice tumor. It has also been used as an inhibitor of fatty acid oxidation in human primary prostate epithelial cells
