It is synthesized along with its carrier protein neurophysin I from its inactive precursor prepro-OXT. OXT gene consists of three exons and two introns wh Oxytocin has been used in immunocytochemistry analysis and it has also been used to study the mechanism responsible for the reduced ability of mice deficient in plasminogen (Plg) to support a litter during lactation.
